Club History

Naomh Pádraig, Leifear – formerly known as Lifford GAA Club – has been at the heart of our local community for over seventy years.

The club was founded in 1953, when a group of dedicated locals came together to promote Gaelic football and foster community spirit in the town of Lifford, County Donegal. For many years, the club proudly competed under the name Lifford GAA, fielding teams across all age levels and providing a sporting and social outlet for countless young people in the parish of Clonleigh.

In 1992, the club adopted its current name, Naomh Pádraig, Leifear, in honour of Ireland’s patron saint, while maintaining the strong local identity that has always defined us.

Our home ground, Páirc Mac Diarmada (McDermott Park), located in The Roughan, has long been the focal point of GAA activity in the area. It stands as a symbol of community pride and dedication, thanks to the countless volunteers who have helped to develop and maintain it over the decades.

Today, Naomh Pádraig fields teams from under-6 to senior level, with thriving boys, girls, and ladies football programmes. We are proud participants in Division 5 of the Donegal Football League, and our players continue to represent the club with passion and pride.

Beyond football, Naomh Pádraig is about community — bringing people together, supporting local initiatives, and keeping the GAA spirit alive for future generations. From our earliest pioneers in the 1950s to our youngest members today, the club’s mission remains the same: to promote Gaelic games, friendship, and pride in our parish and county.
